Spanking Machine's most danceable and emotionally powerful CD to date, ''Now Lie In It'' fits solidly in the genre of EBM or Electro, but seeks to expand it and invigorate it at every turn. Compelling electronic dance beats, body shaking bass, and innovative synthesizer programming lay a foundation for alluring vocal melodies and intense lyrics - creating anthems for those who are ready to cast off their inhibitions on the dance floor and in life. Review by Noctigram Magazine
This CD surprised me. From the band's name to the fetishistic photos of the band themselves, everything about this band and album screamed "Sexy Fetish Industrial!", which would have been fine by me. But to the contrary, although the music is still thouroughly danceable and the female vocals by Mz. Victoria Kalimata often sound "sexy" or "girlish", this is an album with real substance. The lyrics and concepts reach far beyond the BDSM image of the band and any pre-concieved notions about them. The use of fetish referernce is deeply metaphoric in many of the lyrics. This is still EBM, only more...grown up. One particularly good track, both lyrically and musically is "Appeasiotomy", about the horror of human reproduction. The sound of the album is almost like someone took LeatherStrip masters and let Front Line Assembly remix them, and had eerie female vocals and samples float throughout. This disc is so entrancing that while I and a friend listened to it, he claimed to "see ghosts in the air". This reaction may have been partially chemically-based, but for sure the disc has a strong power of drawing you in and not letting you back out very quickly.
